Top 5 Best Restaurants in Marrakech

Looking for the best restaurants in Marrakech? I got you covered.

Moroccan cuisine is typically tajine and couscous. But, there is so much more, especially in Marrakech. Go ahead and read about my top tips for best restaurants in Marrakech!

1. Le Jardin Restaurant in Marrakech’s Medina

If you read my previous Marrakech blog, chances are that during your visit in Marrakech, you will visit Le Jardin Secret, the beautiful garden in the heart of the Marrakech Medina. Very close to Le Jardin Secret is the restaurant with -what’s in a name- the name Le Jardin. This restaurant in Marrakech in the Medina with its green tiles, umbrellas and vegetation, will excite every traveller with an active Instagram account.

The food at Le Jardin was also of good quality. I shared a Moroccan salad an tajine with my sister, as you can see on the picture below.

2. La Famille Restaurant in Marrakech’s Medina

Another Instagram-worthy restaurant in Marrakech that deserves a spot in this list is in the middle of Marrakech’s Medina. Combine your lunch or dinner at Restaurant La Famille with a visit to Bahia Palace, as the palace is just down the street from the restaurant.

Restaurant in the heart of Marrakech's Medina is La Famille. Restaurant La Famille is very close to Bahia Palace in Marrakech, Morocco.

La Famille’s menu is as colourful as its tableware. I shared the pizzeta (wrap pizza with hummus, grilled eggplant and mint) and the gnocchi with my sister. The pizzeta was not the greatest success, but I would definitely recommend the gnocchi!

3. Jnane Leila Restaurant in Marrakech outside the Medina

After our adventures in the Medina of Marrakech and the Sahara desert tour, my sister and I decided we needed a break before returning back home. We found the hotel Jnane Leila just outside of the Medina. It is a green oase with a swimming pool, kitties and… a restaurant. For dinner, we sat inside next to the fireplace (it was December… that’s why) and shared our last Moroccan meal here.

Even though we were almost the only guests in both the hotel and the restaurant, it was a very cosy place with good food.

4. Riad & Spa Demeure Bois Précieux in Marrakech’s Medina

When in Marrakech, definitely book a Riad in the Medina for at least a few nights. A Riad is a traditional, Moroccan hotel. If you find the right fit for you, it can be an amazing experience. Riad & Spa Demeure Bois Précieux was definitely the perfect fit for us! Not only can you sleep in all of the different Riads in Marrakech, most them also have their own restaurant.

The staff is super friendly and serves amazing, traditional Moroccan breakfast every morning. Also for lunch or dinner you can come here, even if you don’t stay in this Riad. I would definitely recommend visiting it, as the patio with swimming pool is very Instagram-worthy. There is also a rooftop with a great view of the roofs of the Medina.

Note: The location on Google Maps is not accurate. The Riad is located across from Riad Borj Dar Lamane in a small alley next to the square where Maps locates the Riad. Riad & Spa Demeure Bois Précieux is located at the end of this alley on the right hand side. The alley looks a little bit shady, but no worries, you will find an oase once inside, and one of the best restaurants in Marrakech.

5. Soul Food by Max & Jan – Restaurant in Marrakech Medina

The last tip for restaurants in Marrakech is actually a hotspot, shop and restaurant all in one. Max & Jan is a concept store in the heart of the Medina, and on its rooftop you will find the restaurant Soul Food

It is definitely not cheap, and I haven’t tried the food so I’m not sure if it’s worth it, but the rooftop terrace looks amazing. So even if you just want to take a picture or go for a drink here, definitely don’t skip Soul Food during your trip in Marrakech.

Bonus tip: Restaurant in Aït Ben Haddou – Auberge Azaddou Tamlalte

I know this blog is about restaurants in Marrakech, but I had my best Moroccan meal outside of the city. Literally the best AND cheapest meal I had was at the restaurant Auberge Azaddou Tamlalte. Our tour guide recommended a restaurant that was at least twice as expensive and served shitty food, but take note: You can go to another restaurant if you want to. So, if you are visiting Aït Ben Haddou on your way to the Sahara desert (Merzouga), I surely recommend going to this restaurant (check directions here). Get a tajine, a couscous, or get a Berber omelette like I did, and enjoy. Final tip: The portions are so big, you can share with a friend.
